Shadow left behind

from Nora Mertes ,Belgium, Germany
Date of birth:28.111982

Dears,
my name is Nora Mertes, I am an art student studying in Bonn but right now in the Hiroshima City University in Japan. Next month I am going to have an exhibition in the RERF (Radiation Effekt Research Foundation). My artworks have to do with the topic of the atomic bombing.
In the overwhelming information mass about the atomic bombs there were a few pictures which sticked into my mind. Those pictures are the shadows humans left behind when the explosion dragged them into death. Only the shadows remained and burned into stone. One part of my work are graphic prints (Lithographie technique), I did many different, together they tell the story about a shadow which were left behind sitting in a bar. But life around him goes on and people are coming a going and not taking nots of it any more. The shadow, which normally represents fleetingness, in this case is the stabile element and people and life around him changes. I feel here in Hiroschima that life goes one but the tragedie that happened is not erasable.
This print works were originally not made for the postcard competition, but they deale about the topic. It might seem to be a little ironic ore not very placative but in my opinion humor and a kind of hidden massage can lead to make people think about it.
I send you an overview of some graphics, they could go together at one card ore each stand on its own. Please ask me if there is any thing unclear ore if you need the graphics separated ore in an different format. (sorry my English is not the best).
Thanks and best wishes form Hiroschima
Nora

sooo last century

from Charlotte Turtle ,Wales
Date of birth:

The pictures 'nuclear history' and 'sooo last century' illsustrate how perhaps nuclear technologies could be merely taught as history, and the idea would be thought of as a mistake because of research and public awareness about the dangers. Similar to how we now think of some past technologies as being a bad idea, now we have learnt.
